Cheap Bamboo
Have abt 10 plants, 3 and 5 gal, that have been potted for several months. Most are runners but I have a few clumpers. I'll be putting them on Craigs List in a few weeks in the 15 to 20 dollar range. I'll charge 5 to 10 dollars plus shipment cost to web members. Good plants for those new to bamboo o...

Re: Good news, bad news
When the Lliama flowered, I came across a experiment done on flowering plants where non flowering culms mixed with flowering culms were dug out and replanted after pruning off roots closest to the flowering culms. I dug out 4 culms and replanted them. Several months have gone by and 3 of the 4 culms...

Re: When to harvest seed?
I lay a tarp under the plant to catch the seeds. Don't force seeds to drop. Rgds

Re: Good news, bad news
Llaima (I was misspelling it Lliama) update: Planted first seeds 4 mths ago. No seedlings have been produced. Others who recvd seeds have also reported no results re seedlings. I segregated 4 culms that showed no signs of flowering. 1 started to flower a couple of weeks ago. Two other growers of Lla...

Re: Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bam
As opposed to bench #1, the top can be taken off. The complexity of it required separate assembly.

Re: Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bam
Bench #2 prior to refinish - also abt 5 years old. More complex than bench #1. Also comprised of madake bamboo glued on cement block (via gorilla glue).
In good shape - will require fill in cracks but no replacement of bamboo will be necessary prior to marine varnish.

Re: Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bam
Re splitting bamboo for projects - I have found it easy to manipulate/split madake most likely because of the center hole. Wondering if solid center of parvi makes splitting more difficult to manipulate/control cuts.

Re: Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bam
I have parvi bamboo but have not experimented with it re handy-crafting. I'll have to take a photo of it's wall. Built a couple of trellises out of black and golden bamboo and they did not last long. Several guys building bamboo surf boards. Not sure what species they are using. Curious what data is...

Re: Parvifolia as a Companion Crop for less Hardy Timber Bam
Photo of bench 2019 - 5 years old. Just added 2 coats of marine varnish. Prepped with steel wool to cut down bamboo wall loss. Filled cracks with gorilla glue and sanded. Interesting colors and grains as bamboo ages. Cracks are increasing but most are narrow. A few small areas showing signs of deter...
