Re: Fargesia demissa 'Gerry'

I would love to try this one someday , however 400 for a one gallon or 500 for a 2 gallon is way out of my range at Bamboo Garden.

Fargesia scabrida winter dormant

does Scabrida go dormant in winter elsewhere? mine completely burned up last winter but culms are alive. starting to see new leaves as well. I have it potted in a 7 gallon tub . We had some teens at night but winter wasn't to bad though are average highs where in the mid to upper 30's and lows mid 2...

Re: New Grower in North Florida needs help

I second the comments made in the previous post. Moso is a difficult bamboo to grow well in most areas. It seems to have very specific environmental preferences. Even if it is happy, it will take many years to get large enough to replace trees. I have grown many bamboos over the years, and Moso is ...

Re: tallest clumping bamboo for NC Mountains zone 7A

Zone 7a is supposed to be 0°F to 5°F and that's just the hardiness of Fargesia robusta. I don't know how well it handles 0F, but I'm quite sure it gets flat when there's a couple of inches of snow. If you have snow during nasty cold spells, it should be ok, if not, - 10F is too cold and it would li...

Re: tallest clumping bamboo for NC Mountains zone 7A

Fargesia robusta is the tallest one if you want to stay safe with clumping bamboos. There are several Borinda alternatives that (c)would become taller, but are marginal in 7a and would most likely suffer. I keep hearing not to try robusta in 7A due to occasional cold snaps . I plan on trying it any...

GROWING CLUMPING BAMBOO SOUTHWEST IDAHO

Just curious if anyone here or over seas is growing any Fargesia in drier climates. We have abundant afternoon shade but are in A semi Arid climate. Summer Humidity is fairly low. Slightly less than Sacramento but no where near as dry as Vegas or Reno. We average about 13.75 inches of rain in small ...
