Re: Fargesia Rufa Shooting!

Canadianplant - Do you not think F. nitida wold have flowered in China quite some time ago? We still have 2+ year old nitida seed and I really should test it out. I did sprout last year.

If you get true spatheca or even another Fargesia species it would be a real treasure.

Re: Fargesia Rufa Shooting!

Canadianplant - Strange there wasn't a lot of hoopla in the ABS Journals re: the flowering of true spatheca. I'm very wary of ebay sellers as I've heard too many stories of plantspeople being victims of fraudulent activity in the sale of rare bulbs and orchids especially in Europe. And those sellers...

Re: From shoots to new culms

Brad - That P. parvifolia is sensational. It has been touted as cool summer grower and possibly our salvation here in the genus. Do you ever get a cool summer that might test that hypothesis? Suppose not like ours....you would probably laugh at what we call a hot summer. How is it for leaf hardniess?

Re: Fargesia Rufa Shooting!

In the spirit of Fargesia discussion, I present my 'seedling' bed which now has ~10 F. nitida seedlings remaining (Thanks John for the seed!) after 2 winters. Time to move them to make room for others! http://inlinethumb56.webshots.com/50231/2259781140072511707S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb56.w...

Re: From shoots to new culms

I can't seem to do much website work anymore, the dial-up internet is too much for my brain to deal with, and am in fact considering pulling my website down when renewal time comes around. Brad - That's the worst news I've had in weeks. Your site is a tremendous resource and full of reliable, well-...

canadianplant wrote:ALso, do you know where that "booklet" can be found?
canadianplant - I plan to copy & send it to Paul and he can relay a copy to you. I don't have it in front of me but I presume it came from Ohlenberger in Germany or Michael Hirsch in Lincolnshire in the late 80's or early 90's.

Re: Fargesia Rufa Shooting!

Jesse- I think that John already knows Cam! Welcome aboard John. Hey there Paul! I wondered where you were. I do indeed know Cam but I haven't seen his plants. He's certainly keen as mustard. Paul - Did I ever mention my first bamboo - F. nitida - came from the late Ken Duncan at Edwards Gardens in...

Re: Fargesia Rufa Shooting!

Johnw - I got a buddy outside of halifax ...... His PSeudosasa didnt even die down, and had minimal leaf damage (mulched). Here is a Pseudosasa japonica (source RFichard Simon at Bluemount Nursery in the late 70's) I planted around the corner quite a few years ago at a friend's. She has since moved...

Re: Fargesia Rufa Shooting!

Johnw, do you have any other bamboo in Nova Scotia? Yarmouth area? I'm trying my luck in PEI just outside Summerside. Todd TC - I'm trying to compile an intelligible list of the 25+ species I grow or have tried in Nova Scotia. I will post it soon. FYI I have a friend in Charlottetown, PEI who has g...

Ive only noticed 2, but they are double the thickness. Ill be posting pics ASAP. You guys down south arent the only ones who seem t...
