RE: Odd fertilizer
When I change water in my aquariums, I always dump the water on my outdoor plants. It contains enough nutrients that I am able to get good growth from the plants without additional fertilizer. I generally keep my aquariums pretty clean, so the nitrates are low. A tank with some messy goldfish or mud...

RE: Bambusa Cold Tolerance
Is it the consensus of those on Bambooweb that all forms of B. textilis have equivalent cold tolerance, as the ABS list shows?

RE: Bambusa Cold Tolerance
Bambusa mutabilis has been moved up and will have the same min as textilis in 2007, on the authority of the Dougs in Jax. This is just what I wanted to know. Thank you everyone! I think Bill and all the folks that actively participate in BambooWeb make the best organization available today for bamb...

RE: Bambusa Cold Tolerance
I wonder where the ABS got the 25 F on the B. mutabilis. From the same source that lists the cold hardiness of Gigantochloa atroviolacea "Tropical Black" at 25 F? I know 2 Dougs who grow it in Jacksonville, Florida with no cold damage. The same place G. atro would suffer extensive damage ...

Bambusa Cold Tolerance
Does anyone have experience with the comparative cold hardiness of Bambusa textilis, Bambusa textilis 'Kanapaha', and Bambusa mutabilis?

RE: What's going on with this bamboo
If he is trying to propagate from immature shoots, they do not have enough stored energy reserves to continue elongating. The shoot is probably just dying back in response to this energy deficiency. I frequently see running bamboo shoots do this if the plants produce too many shoots to support, or i...

RE: "Crookstems"
I grow both Ph. aurea and Ph. aureosulcata . The former has produced distorted culms very consistently. Both plants have gone through years with adequate moisture and years with extreme drought stress, and this has not made a noticeable difference in the amount of distortion on either one of my plan...

RE: "Crookstems"
My Ph. aureosulcata does produce crooked culms, but they are not bent nearly as much as some that I have seen in photographs. Also, only a very small percentage of the culms show the crooked characteristic. My plant appears to be stressed by our long, hot summers, and the culm size has increased ver...

RE: Bambusa multiplex ' Alphonse Karr' becoming extinct
I have been wondering what the flowering cycle is for Bambusa multiplex. Have any of the B. multiplex cultivars had a mass flowering in modern times, or have all the recent flowering events been stress induced? If they did have a mass flowering, did all the plants die after flowering?

RE: Help needed. Planting ?s...m
I agree with David. If you try to divide a running bamboo that has filled the pot, you will end up damaging some of the rhizomes. A large potted Phyllostachys rubromarginata will rapidly spread and soon produce plenty of rhizomes. If you need more plants, these rhizomes can be used for propagation i...

Clone X
I have been unable to find much information about this plant, and I am hoping that Roy or someone else on the forum can share what they know about Bambusa sp. ?Clone X?. Specifically, I would like to know its origin, how and when it came to the U.S., and any opinions on whether it is really part of ...

RE: Arundinaria gigantea roots from culm nodes
I had a similar experience with A. gigantea several years ago. I made a single culm division from a mature grove in late summer. This was a decent sized culm and not a whipshoot. I was not very careful, and I got a very small rootball. I planted the division directly in the ground and cared for it f...

I have been reading this forum for some time now, and I finally got around to registering. I have already gained a large amount of information from reading old posts. I have been gardening for about 25 years and growing bamboo since 2001. Currently, I have quite a few running bamboos and am experime...
