Re: Changing climate
The only things in your post that surprises me, foxd, is that Batshit Crazy was capable of linking to a folder in your private directory. I have family who responsibly grows beautiful yellow groove in Westport, by the way. Not really a surprise, I had posted the link here on Bambooweb and she'd cop...

Re: Climate theories, raves, facts and opinions
Weather in the Northeastern states is being affected by a cold spot in the North Atlantic being caused by massive amounts of melt water running off of Greenland. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2015/09/24/why-some-scientists-are-worried-about-a-cold-blob-in-the-north-atlant...

Re: Changing climate
I'm trying to figure out how to respond to this because the events are kind of complicated. And there were parallels with the antics of batshit crazy in Connecticut which later proved useful. Back about 1998 a group I was associated with was targeted by a hoaxer. While the hoax was immediately seen ...

Is this on Civic Center Drive?
I'm inclined to suspect aurea because some of the nodes look close together on Google Maps.
I would post a link, but Batshit Crazy may be watching.

Re: Anyone have any eperience with Hardy Kiwi?
I made an impulse buy at a local box store the other day of a few Hardy Kiwi plants (Actinidia Arguta 'Anna' and ' Meader'). They claim to be hardy even to zone 4. I was just wondering if any of you all had any experience and or recommendations on growing these. You need both male and female plants...

Yes, yes it has. I must admit I am amazed that there has been this much variation in the reports of Rufa's hardiness.johnw wrote:Dan - has your ever seen sub=zero F. temps?

Re: New to bamboo, getting started
I've been growing 'Rufa' here in Southern Indiana for many years and am quite happy with it. I have yet to have it top kill, though it may be a bit protected in its location.

Re: FOWL smelling bamboo
The only times I have seen the bird populations in bamboo get excessive is when the weather has been extreme enough during the Winter that all other habitat has been destroyed. Thinking about it, the easiest way I've found to disturb the roosting of birds in bamboo during the night is just to pass t...

Due to the weird weather plants in the basement for the Winter are not going dormant like normal. One of the Surinam Cherry Trees has decided to start blooming and producing fruit.

Re: HELP! Growing Tropical Bamboo in Zone 6
I've had P. aurea survive some Winters here without top kill, but the last couple of Winters have not been kind to it and managed to kill P. aurea 'Koi'. I've also had some Bambusa survive several Winters outside and it would start to produce some impressive shoots by the end of the Summer, but it t...

Re: Clone X
I can comment for B. ventricosa in here in Zone 5/6. I tried planting this out and it survive for several years and seemed to hold its own until we got the past couple of really bad Winters which killed it. I was impressed with just how quickly it could size up during the Summer, producing shoots ov...

Re: Lighting
I tried a few of the LED panels and was not impressed. They didn't seem to supply enough light and the reliability left a lot to be desired. (LEDs are in series, any one failing took out a string of lights, and the failure rate of the LEDs was awfully high.)
