Forbid?
Has anyone here tried Bayers forbid for bamboo mites? Avid hasn't worked and I'm looking for a alternate solution.

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
I'm really hoping that this mild temp sticks around. The grass is green and I'm sure the boos are just anxious to start shooting. LOL

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
No polar vortex for BC. We did have a Arctic blast at the start of December but that was it. Seasonal temperatures have been above average daytime highs have been 10 to 11°C. My moso did partially D foliate at my December low of -12.5 Celsius. Chusquea Gigantea as well. My neighbors are alowing me t...

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
Does anyone on here have any success with Judo? Avid should have eradicated my mites and now I need to turn to something else. Oil soap mix almost seems pointless. Soon it's time to get real real serious before the mites work there way over to the Vivax Aureocaulis which is going to get reall tall t...

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
I'm not to sure if ladybugs would work. That's a good point and maybe someone here has some experience with that.

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
Applied a mix of 50% dish soap,50% veg oil mix with a power washer yesterday from the detergent compartment in the machine. I'm not to sure on the ratio of water added but I'm sure it was applied thick. I had a look around and it seems that some of the P. Glauca is also starting to have mite damage ...

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
Clear cutting would be the best option but the only problem is is that all my neighbors have them too and I'm not to sure if they can see that same benifit. Stage two for me is going to be a simple mite solution from the local Nursary that I'm going to apply with a power washer. If that doesn't work...

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
The verdict is out. I just went up to the local shoppers and bought a 7.5x magnifying glass and I can see some of the little buggers when I pull up the webbing! They are feeding in the winter here! I'm gonna have to get a more powerful pesticide or try the oil spray remedy. I'm super disappointed th...

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
I was checking out my boos this Christmas Eve and I noticed that some of my groves seem to be showing larger signs of mite damage. Is it possible that with my three applications of Avid and this wet winter weather that they could still be alive and feeding? They say that they don't feed in the winte...

Re: Darn Deer
Best way to keep the males from rubbing is to just loosely wrap bird net mesh around the grove or just where they have access to it. They won't want to have their antlers caught up in it. Give it a try I know it keeps those darn bucks away from some of my plants.

Re: Rhizome fertilizer program
How much milorganite would a person use on an established grove? It would be good to get away from the chemical fertilizer program and onto a more organic option. It just makes more sense to me to keep the chemicals out of the groves but the use seems to easily feed the needs. Fast absorption is alw...

Re: Rhizome fertilizer program
That's good news to hear. I like to go heavier on the fertilizer as I'm hoping I get massive shoots in the spring. I use lots of bone meal, blood meal, home are compost, mulches and a lawn fertiliZer from art Knapps that's like a 27 4 8 or something around there. It always just been a thought of min...

Re: Neighbors mites traveling
Well it's hard to really know if I have eradicated the problem until the warm spring wether comes back and the summer dryness occurs. I was a little late in the season for spraying but better late then never I thought. I'm just hoping that there aren't any hiding buggers in the sheaths overwintering...

Re: Rhizome fertilizer program
Well I have heard this from one friend of mine who grows over 70 varieties. He said mostly it was the infrequent heavy snow that we get that seemed to really give truth to the "over feeding week culms suggestion". What I really wonder is has anyone ever actually damaged there bamboo from o...
