Re: Dendrocalamus Validus
Interesting observation on the Validis and saltwater tolerance for sure. While it not pure ocean water, another I know who lives on the St John's River has been flooded numerous times due to hurricane storm surge, and and while some sufferred none of his bamboo died. Curious what the other species w...

Re: How to train Bambusa oldhamii?
The only way to train bamboo to hopefully entice it to grow in one direction I would think is to continuously root prune in the side you don't want new growth to appear. That being said, on my Bambusa emiensis viridiflavus and Bambusa textilis gracilis, I have a tone of new shoots that are popping u...

Re: B multiplex variegation
Are you certain of what type you have? How long have the hedges been planted?
I know B. Multiplex Silverstripe has a lot of variation, so perhaps this is what you have and it's just reached the point it decided to show it's true colors?

Re: Bamboo variety advice please
Bamboo will shed it's leaves when stressed due to lack of water as well as once a year while new leaves are produced, so that will always be an issue. The larger diameter bamboos are going to need room to grow to reach their true potential, so your requirements for that may not be achievable. That b...

Re: Shoot thread
Must just be something with those two bamboos, as neither my Lako and Viridiflavus have any new shoots popping either. My Mutabilis also has no new shoots yet....

Re: Propagating B. textilis var. Gracilis
I have a few videos on my YouTube channel documenting bamboo propagation using division and culm cuttings, including Gracilis. Not always successful with my divisions ripped out of the ground, especially with the Gracilis and Mutabilis this year. However, my potted Hirose which I divided into three ...

Re: Buying Potted Bamboo: Propagation Question
How tall is the main culm? So you have a picture? I ask as I have taken many single culm divisions that send up what I call whip shoots first, followed later in the season by some much nicer sized culms. Propagation made from culm cuttings will be the same, but yes, do take longer to establish much ...
