In my Aurea 47 culms I just counted, It's dark, 10:00pm but I'm sure there is only one, because when I found it, I thought , it's about time. It is free to run, some is watered, some is not, and it's five years old.
Maybe someone can explain that one.

I don't think the issue should be how far a rhizome will go. You should remember bamboo is a grass,a big woody grass. Like grass it's roots need to be trimmed. Don't do any trimming on a new planting unless the culm is dead. This is how the plant gets it's energy.
Let it continue to size up for a couple of years!
