Re: First bamboo you obtained

Leo, thank you so much for all the fantastic info, and the time spent writing it. I've been super busy with work this week but I will take time to reread it this weekend. I am curious though, could you elaborate a bit on "rubro not being hardy enough in 5b" always top killed? Or complete, ...

Re: First bamboo you obtained

Wow, thanks for all the excellent info Leo. You definitely have some of the best, long term, cold zone, bamboo growing info out there. Make sure to let me know when you decide that work needs to be done on your Aureosulcata grove. If I can swing the time away and the trip, I'd love to help, in excha...

Re: Getting back into gardening, zone 5

First, I'd steer away from clay, or anything solid and heavy...lol. Plastic, and wood will have some give and or allow disassembly when dividing/transplanting. I've never done, but all I've read says getting a bamboo out of rigid, and certainly narrow at the top, container is all but impossible with...

Re: Fargesia sp. 'Jiuzhaigou 1'

Oh and you're welcome to leave the pics. They may be of use to someone stumbling across this thread. There isn't a whole lot of "real world" info or comparison photos on the Juiz's out there.

Re: Fargesia sp. 'Jiuzhaigou 1'

Thanks for the info and the pics! So far I'm loving mine, and I think based on what you describe, I made the right choice. I do like the dangling leaves...and the colors...my the colors...lol

Up to 10 new shoots in the last week... :D

Re: Getting back into gardening, zone 5

That is one difference, the Atrovaginata will not do the angled lean that Parvifolia does when young, mine stopped that in about year 2-3 so don't worry too much about it. Glad to hear that. And I'm sure I could deal with the parvifolia, but I've seen some pics of them that would be just insane gro...

Re: Callas, Cannas, Cactus, and so forth

Thank you both! I'll add some more when I get a chance. I have another ~dozen amorph species, not all in active growth currently. Which, when growing amorphs means, a pot of dirt with something that may or may not be alive in it..lol.

Re: Getting back into gardening, zone 5

I'm curious Brad, if that means the weeping/45* angled shooting habit as well? I may have to cancel or at least rethink my plans to make abother 3 sided barrier along my fence for some atro next yeat if so. I was under the impression atrovaginata was a fairly straight/upright grower? Or do they both...

Maculata, good thing my neighbor has a large dark maple or I couldn't get a picture of these flowers, they're almost 8 feet up. Plus being very overcast today helps. Re: Getting back into gardening, zone 5

Atrovaginata was on my short list but I put rubromarginata instead with my spectabilis and bissetii...I will be very interested in how an atro does for you if you do end planting one. I've read some things since making my choice that have gotten my wheels turning for a place to stick one...lol I som...
