Nice! I’m about 2 hours west of you, just N of Gulf Shores, AL.
I got several more Bambusa this Spring, which I picked up from tropicalbamboo.com

Re: Sasa palmata?
Thanks, Brad. Now that I think about it, perhaps you recommended S. palmata. I don’t remember where I got it, but thought it was S. palmata all these years. My apparent S. tsuboiana only got 2’ or less in Indiana; burning back most winters. I brought a chunk to the Alabama Gulf Coast last year. We’l...

Sasa palmata?
Brad, I got what I remember to be Sasa palmata from you in Indiana years ago. But, I see a friend says S. palmata looks like the 1st photo. Mine is the second photo. What is mine?
Thanks,
Doug
Thanks,
Doug

Re: Cold air next week.
N. Florida/Alabama Gulf Coast only dropped to 30 degrees F this morning. Five days ago, forecast was low to mid 20's. The cold air mass didn't move much further south than Kentucky. So, assuming no February freezes, our tropical bamboos and bananas should be in great shape.

Re: Tropical clumping bamboo as "cut-back perennial"
Good advice, Glen. Thanks. I was thinking about adding the full size chungii. I posted a new topic on B. dissimilis, that Tropical Bamboo sells. I'd be interested in what you can add.

Bamboo dissimilis
Checking to see what the experienced tropical bamboo growers here know about B.dissimilis. Tropical Bamboo, Nursery, Loxachatchee, FL has it. I got one. I had it or B. distegia on my list of possibilities. They recommended dissimilis if I was getting one or the other. And, it wasn't to make a better...

Re: Tropical clumping bamboo as "cut-back perennial"
Thanks, Glen. That's what I needed to know. I've still got several "bamboos of size" I can grow in 8b/9a. Here's what I have now: All Bambusas; B. textilis 'Kanapaha' (new this year but have seen two other guys in the area growing it and it's done well); B. chungii 'Barbellata'; B. multipl...

Re: Tropical clumping bamboo as "cut-back perennial"
Thanks, Glen. I added my location to my profile. I'm SE US; zone 8b/9a. Actually 9a most winters. We can grow most of the Bambusa that you'd grow in 9a without foliage burn in most winters including B. chungii, Kanapaha, Seabreeze, muliplex(es), etc. What are some you grow in Texas 9a as cut back pe...

Tropical clumping bamboo as "cut-back perennial"
Are there tropical clumping bamboos that would perform as "cut back perennials" somewhat north of their recommend zone? For example: are there certain varieties of bamboo with a minimum recommended temperature of 27 F come back decently from the ground each year in zone 8b/9a where tempera...

Re: Alabama Gulf Coast - clumping bamboo
Thanks for the list. I just saw Kanapaha bamboo last month at the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in Gainesville, FL. I'll need to see where I can purchase it. I haven't run across it for sale.

Alabama Gulf Coast - clumping bamboo
I haven't posted in perhaps nearly 10 years. Bought my first bamboo from Brad S. in Indiana. I've retired and moved from Central Indiana to the Alabama Gulf Coast (Zone 5 to Zone 8b/9a). I'm growing only clumping bamboo down here. I attached photos of my Baby Blue Bamboo, Bambusa chungii 'Barbellata...

RE: 2007 Boo Shooting Season! : Not just for tropicals anymo
My P. rubromarginata is starting to emerge; almost a week after P. bissetii. We have so many rabbits I'm fencing them out until the bamboo shoots get taller and tougher.
