Re: Phyllostachys nigra 'Bory' flowering in Issaquah, WA

I seem to have had a lot of flowering. Chusquea gigantea, chusquea culeou, Phyllostachys nigra, and Phyllostachys nigra bory. I guess the price you pay when you have 31 varieties. Still seems high though. I had a nigra that flowered about 5 years ago. Since then I have replaced it with some really n...

Phyllostachys nigra 'Bory' flowering in Issaquah, WA

I just wanted to share, and see if anyone else is having this happen.

This was one of my largest and it was in a key area. :( super bummed.

Absolutely loved this plant. I will collect seeds and try to reboot it. I got this from a generous guy, he told it was Bory.

Ry

Re: Chusquea Gigantea flowering :( WA state

I got a three culm clump from someone near seattle about eight years ago. It is a pretty weepy variety but I didn't have it in full sun. Does yours look like mine?

Can you layer bamboo like this drawing?

Hey gang,

Can you bury bamboo lying down with leaves exposed and have it root at the nodes?
I would like to try this with some of my clumpers. If I try it I will post pics.

All the best,
Ryan :sawzall:

Re: ID help with two clumpers near Seattle

I think you guys are correct about the Pseudosasa japonica. Thank you so much! The women I got this from said "we had this 12 years before it sent out runners" The entire 20 year old clump was an unmaintained kidney bean shape about 12 feet across and very dense. It didn't seem like it was...
