Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

No new shoots yet. No new leafing out. One clump up too high to really inspect flowering but looks okay from ground. Wind has bent down a cluster on other clump though. Mostly flowering on that still looks healthy. Some deterioration but that seems to be by a few ants that seem to be farming some fu...

Re: Need ID of plant Naples Fl

Sorry not much help. The height completely throws me. Might be better if you show photos of height, of leaves, and certainly of the new culms as they sprout this season. Sometimes they are hardest to ID when young but other times the new shoots are quite telling as to species by color, form or manne...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

I didn't mean to imply at all that Robert would purposely or even carelessly mislabel a plant but as his operation grew, so did personnel and then of course anything is possible. In fact, what was so disheartening when it happened to me not by Robert but by the Miami guy, besides not knowing for all...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

I'd have thought Robert had from the same source as ours and I just checked his site which states from Hawaii so probably so. And I was just down there recently as my brother lives not far from him, often I stop in but did not this time around. Would have been interesting to see his Parkers but I wa...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

Think I've mentioned (on this thread?) that I've had only one other that flowered, sacred bali, but never lost leaves. flowered a few years in a row but always put up new culms each season. I'm hoping this is similar though I'm not encouraged by it having lost all leaves before going to seed. The di...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

No idea what designating means. I don't know if what I think I see emanating from flower will turn out as elaborate as your pic but here's what I've got so far... (please excuse poor quality, just took with very old pocket camera).... http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f344/bambamboobooboo/parker-1_z...

Re: Need ID of plant Naples Fl

Tough to ID from those pics. Possibly seabreeze aka maling? No idea really. I would say though that the rooting above grade occurs on a few different clumpers. I've seen that on vulgaris , on maling, on golden Hawaiian, etc. Your height description seems off, 60 ft sounds too high for 3 inches. You ...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

Hiya Roy. In fact I was just out inspecting and this morning pulled off a flowering section to photo for forum (will post pic later). I think I see some sort of filament coming out of the seed pod thingy but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. No (hopeful) re-leafing yet though if I recall correctly t...

Re: Bambusa emeiensis 'Flavidovirens' Under Attack!

Okay, so daylight inspection shows the divided clump (all green) also with lesions but also only on the elder culms. I usually divide newer growth off older when they've a good root system so I'll guess the ones bruising on the divided are about three or four years old as I think I did that division...

Re: Bambusa emeiensis 'Flavidovirens' Under Attack!

Loved your intro Chris S. Very funny. And you've a good eye. Very much looks like the bruising in that link you posted. Interesting. Come to think of it, I'm starting to get the same thing on my arms as I age. Not so much from the Florida humidity but from our sun. Probably too late to slather sunsc...

Unsurprising, considering I got mine from you. In fact, when I first saw the flowering I was gonna ask for my money back.

Will be interesting to home in on ID from the very infrequent flowering.

Bambusa emeiensis 'Flavidovirens' Under Attack!

Halp! Bambusa emeiensis 'Flavidovirens' with some blackness creeping thing on it. In it? Not sure if it is coming from outside in or inside out. I tried to pressure clean it off but the culms remain discolored. My seabreeze discolors after a number of years but these seemed to discolor fairly quickl...

Re: Dendrocalamus sp. 'Parker's Giant' flowering

Hi Roy. Hi forum. My Parker's also in flower. Two in ground. Was gonna post, then got busy with stuff. Just about to post tonight when I saw this thread. Here's some pics. I first noticed the seed pods Dec 22 which had dropped in a wheelbarrow left under clump. Guess we won't know what this thing wi...

Re: Clumping Bamboo Footprint at Maturity

Those are some mature clumps for sure. I've got a good sized parcel but still in city so will need to better contain mine as they age. For now I just thin out the older culms and I've been reducing the footprint as I've been taking divisions. I've noticed that the seabreeze seems to like to keep exp...

Re: Boo-Shoots 2016

bambambooboo - great shoots and species collection there, I'm assuming by the species & pines that you are in central or south FL? Thank you. & yes, was south now central-ish. Filled U-Haul with boos from southern garden. Most survived fairly well. I did lose sacred Bali (Schizostachyum bra...
