Re: snow plows

A friend of mine also forges Damascus steel (he knows the real obscure stuff, like what exact temperature Damascus softens at just right to work it). He creates amazing 70,000 layer blades in the Japanese tradition, even though he's not Japanese. A Japananese master smith saw one of his knife blade...

clay soil treatment

Michele - yes, my soil is definitely clay. In most places, the first 6" isn't too hard when it's slightly moist - it was a grassy cow field, so the "topsoil" isn't bad, although it's nitrogen deficient. I may have to work a King of Spades into the budget. I am trying to decide whethe...

snow plows

Chele, The plow always leaves a bigger mess than the storm. :( I have a fantasy of leaving a big honkin' anvil, or even better, a diesel truck engine block at the foot of my driveway for the plow to hit... But it probably would just add that to the heap. :? ill take the anvil im a damascus bladesmi...

shovel-boo

I'm another GW transfer ... just a newbie, though. I planted 8 B. multiplex yesterday ... had to quit when the shovel broke. This is the 2nd shovel to break in 3 months. (My soil is a bit hard.) Maybe I need one of those super-shovels ya'll have been discussing. I'll be going on the LGCC trip to Av...

Feel sorry for those enduring the 'noreaster right now, sounds like Cadyg will be getting about two feet of snow -ouch! Spring can't come soon enough. Eric Ended up with a foot and a half, and then the 3' pile the city plow left at the bottom of my driveway. :x But, after the storm we had temperatu...

lol..

We have fruit on this side of the state but the planes are made on the other side. The cascade range makes a big difference in the weather. If we could get some more volcanoes to blow their tops we might get some more rain over here. Plus the sulphur in the ash would be good for the soil. Bill And ...
