Re: I found Bergbambos tessellata growing in the wild!
Awesome stuff! The mountains, minus the close up pictures of the plants, look a lot like the interior mountains in British Columbia, Canada.
Always interested in the rare plant stuff, thanks for posting it!

Re: 2014 Big Chill III
Yikes. -4F in Chicago. I remember looking at one of those maps last week and saying that there was a -30F directly to the south of me (in upstate New York). Damn glad I don't live in those Mountains! Also, on that first page, I can't get over that huge spot of waaayyy above 'normal' temps that is sh...

Re: 2014 Big Chill III
Long time no post. It's been COLD here, not as cold as 1993, 94 or the early 80`s, but cold for the `modern`era. We`ve hit below -20C in the city core (Toronto) for the first time in a few years. Absolute low was -21C. The bamboo planted around town (mostly P. aureosulcata and it`s var. aureocaulis)...

Those Fargesia are fantastic, especially the murieale. I should really get another one to try.
That nitida I bought from you, John, is still doing fantastic, easily the toughest bamboo that I grow!

John- Given my recent 'troubles' I've just sown out the P. kwang seeds you sent me. I'm hoping for some success given your experience. Thanks again!

I assume the B. macleureana is in the southwest? It's established a zone 7 plant, right?

I find it surprising that it is slow to leaf out. I wouldn't think it would have such luxury in its native haunts!

Re: Phyllostachys i.d.
John- Methinks this will be from Don's Phy. aureosulcata v. aureocaulis, which he got from bambooworld back around the year 2000. He does indeed live in the hydrostone, or did when I last spoke with him.
I can probably give you an exact address, if you want to go look for the plant.

Re: Fargesia nitida R.I.P
Sow the seeds as quickly as you can, they seem to lose viability pretty quickly.
I've done mine in standard seed starting mix lightly covered with vermiculite (could use grow mix too). They germinate readily at room temperature!
Good luck.
