Like I said already, I think it's a Moso seedling they got their hands on and multiplied it. Very nice looking bamboo. Somewhat reminds me of my Shiroshima. If I'd get a Phyllostachys with leaves like that, I would certainly got rid of Shiroshima. :) Much too weedy, and bends to the ground way too easily.

Let it grow! It looks great!

Apple :)

Here’s a picture of my friends that’s been through -20c with minimal hay protection and a cover. It’s east coast USA. It’s looking really good so far but it was protected.

To size photos for posting with Apple try this:

Drag your photo(s) into iPhoto.

Highlight the one(s) you want to re-size. At the top of the page press File, then Export which will bring up this prompt.

See the first attachment. Change Current using the drop down menu to jpg. Change jpg quality to Medium. Change the size to Large. Change Filename to Title. See 2nd attachment as it should now be.

Press Export. Choose a destination - I have a folder setup for Posting Photos.

Then you can choose that photo at the proper sizing when posting on the site.

John, we are not allowed to post 'large' as that is 1280px. Only you moderators can.
We are restricted to 1000px.

Gary

Thanks. Didn't realize that as it (Large) works on other sites without a problem. If one changed Large to Medium I wonder if it would affect the size of the photo posted? Your method is likely better in any case.

Thanks John.

For the most part I’m using an iPhone tho so the app that Deane suggested had been working wonderful. It’s super easy and keeps the size to 1000x1000

Thanks for all the tips guys.

As much as I want to believe that this is a phyllostachys I have yet to see any pictures of this plant that show the characteristic double side-branches of a phyllo.

So far mine hasn't produced any culms that would help with a more positive id in this regard. I'm still kind of leaning towards it simply being pleioblastus auricomus but then again - I'm no expert.

Greetings from Austria,

Nicholas

I guess this is from Jos' list?

A rubicunda seedling may be a possible candidate if it is a phyllo given that it flowered (is still flowering?) a few years ago.
In this respect other phyllos that recently went into flower such as phyllostachys arcana, praecox or kwangsiensis may also be interesting candidates.

I just wish we had pictures of a more mature specimen.

This was a tissue culture plant and not a seed grown plant though.
