I fondly remember the days when building my bamboo collection, each variation of a type worth acquiring.

At one point I realized one of only established local boo suppliers at the time was selling a lot of bissetti, in immature form, as other more collectable boos. Was well before wide use of internet, it was paper catalogs and calendars sent to previous customers.

Remember, these critters need to take up some yard space to reach their potential.

Wish you the best of luck and keep us posted.

It probably is not but I am wondering if the Phy sp. 'Natchez' that I have might be the same, I was staring at Kimmei's picture/description of it. Shooting season may tell if this form of Phy. iridescens has the same bright reddish culm leaves of Phy iridescens, my 'Natchez' does not.

The Natchez is the one that was dug outside of marked spaces at USDA Byron, I think. Quite odd it starts out with bright yellow culms with a green sulcus and eventually most of the culms fade to green with a green sulcus - opposite of Robert Young. A guess by Jim who collected it is a form of Praecox but if so the internodes do not reflect that. I'm wondering if it is a form of bambusoides from a flowering. I brought one to CA with me just to see what it looks like when mature, in IN it was not hardy enough and topkilled annually.

very interesting Brad as far as I was aware it’s not in USA yet but I don’t know that much about it, not sure if Stèphane Allzen from newfi bamboo is on here, I know he is on the French forums. I am sure he could shed some light on it

Yea, the Natchez is an unusual bamboo so I'm always looking for new varieties that are similar. I'm not aware of any other form that starts out looking like Phy bambusoides 'Castillon' and ends up turning green over time.

from what Stèphane’s blog say’s it looks promising “To illustrate our satisfaction to see our bamboos grow so strong at the moment, a small photo of the turion that makes us a real surprise this year is the Phyllostachys iridescens heterochroma which measures 5 cm in diameter from its third year of planting ”

For me it just looks like a Phyllostachys praecox 'Viridisulcata'. And as preacox is a form of violascens and violascens is often confused with iridescens ....

That’s interesting Steffen do you think so, I don’t have praecox ‘Viridisulcata’ in my collection to compare it to. Jos at Kimmei has both thought this his description iriidescens 'Heterochroma' Beautiful, sometimes with yellowculms, sometimes yellow and green stroped and sometimes green. You sometimes can see the typical iridescens stripes.
Height 6-8 m.+ sun till half shadow hardy between -18/-21°C Not available! How does that compare to praecox
