Hello I recently moved into a new home and have been researching bamboo privacy fencing. More specifically yellow and arrow bamboo. After moving into my new home, I have come to realize that their is a rather stinky sewer system that runs near by. Made worse by warm weather. ( I hope it is going to be a cool summer =-).

So my question is, I know that many people use bamboo as deotorizers and air purifiers. However these seem to be processed forms of bamboo. Are there airpurification qualites in living bamboo groves that could help me controll the smell coming from the nearby drain? I believe I live in climate zone 6 NJ and I know that arrow and yellow are the most common and preferable species in my area. Do these species have any of the characteristics I may be looking for. Or is there another type of bamboo that would more adequately fit my needs?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank You very much!!!

Alex

All I can personally say, is that Bamboo does absorb more CO2, and release more Oxygen, then a tree of the same relative size. Your best bet might be to plant Fragrant plants, or plants that may clean the water around the drain.

sounds like a backed up sewer to me, bamboo by and large will not be able to address the methane, sulfur, and ammonia mixture you are smelling. If you don't own the sewer find out who does and ask them to clean out the blockage.
