Tony, personally I'd return it and spray the plants with a garden hose.

Foxd was going to show me what mite damage looked like but could not find any last time out.
Do you have any links to what mite damage looks like?
I do have some kind of fly that seems to be sucking mostly on last years culms,
that is why I bought the Bayer.
Also some of the leaves have this pattern across the leaves where something is definately doing damage.
What do you recomend for pests on bamboo?

Do you have a mite problem? If not, don't spray anything!
If you do have a mite problem, this may be better:

You don't spray it on the leaves, you water the plant with it.

Living on the west coast, boo mites are everywhere. I have had a couple plants come from people that had boo mites. I have used the bayer stuff, but sometimes it does not work completely. I have not had a case of mites last through the winter though, so you may find the same there, since you get colder temps.

Tony, there are pictures of mite damage in the photos section of the MSC Yahoo Group under the 2008 ABS Conference. Here is one of them:
Southern Indiana.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

Photos of mite damage BmV should be on the FAQ's page or the wiki for reference no?

I would love to put them in the wiki, but I haven't been able to figure out how to add pictures to a wiki page.needmore wrote:Photos of mite damage BmV should be on the FAQ's page or the wiki for reference no?

Ok so maybe I don;t have the mites on my Bamboo....
My leaves look nothing like the photo FoxD posted.
But those little flys are sure doing some damage.
It has been 2 days since I sprayed the Bayer.
My Bamboo has never looked happier.

Hello Alan,
The flies look like fruit flies, just a bit smaller than house fly with rounded wings.
I forgot to spray one of my bamboos when I had the bayer out.
This one Bamboo had tons of flyies while the others had none!
The flies are just sitting on the culms as you walk up and they must be sucking as they do not fly away untill you shake the culm.
I do not see any of the "tents" as described by foxD.

Re: Is this the right stuff????
I'd be surprised if the flies were doing anything harmful to the bamboo.

Re: Is this the right stuff????
If they are fruit fly sized, then they are probably aphids, which will cause some damage to your boo from feeding on it, and a bigger mess from their droppings.
