some form of Indocalamus or Sasa, I would lean toward Sasa due to the culm shot.

This is most definitely Sasa Palmata. I have this exact same occurrence with mine. Indocalamus culms are not this color!

Hi! Here's another one! I'm posting this here for someone that visits a different bamboo forum because he hasn't received any responses:

Would vivax be a good guess? I wasn't too sure because I don't see any of the yellowing culms that vivax usually produces.
It was supposedly brought back from Korea during the war.
Notice the very deep grooves on that one culm in the last picture :D!

look slightly to the right of the hand in the lower photo... I think what you have there is a well cared for, mature grove of P. aurea.

I'd like to see close-ups of several new shoots and the first few feet of several mature culms. Also the cross-sections of one or more large older culms, and knowing where it is located would be helpful.

Gene you are speaking of the short internodes near the base of that culm?

Wowza!
I never knew aurea could look so good ...but then again, I chose not to grow aurea because of how common it is. Perhaps I am missing out!

I managed to retrieve the location :salute: : Hot Springs Arkansas

yes, the shortened internodes on that one culm are a give away. there is another to the left side, one internode is shortened, but not swollen. Most aurea looks like a weed, but thats lack of care. if it gets in a happy place, it can size up nice, and be a very nice medium boo. I have seen some here about 1.5" to 2" (im terrible at estimating boo diameter). and that was a straight culm, not one of the shortened bellied ones.

I've seen the shortened nodes as high up as 7 or 8 feet. I would love to know where this grove is in Hot Springs. I live about a hour away and have been there several times looking for bamboo. If you can p.m. me to where it is or in the forum I will go and check it out.
