I'm trying to help someone in Zone 5 identify a bamboo that he just dug up. He thinks it might be nuda. Below are 2 pictures. Also, can anyone tell me whether nuda has relatively thick culm walls or not? (You can see the stump from a cut-off culm in the lower right of the first picture.)

Could be nuda... nuda tends to have random zig-zag culms in it, and white bloom under the nodes.

Gil, looks like a pretty good candidate for Nuda, and Nuda culms are thick such as in the photo. The dusky dark culms with the white ring, plus the color of green in the whip culm look proper for Nuda to my eye.

Is that really in zone 5? Ya, it looks like nuda but more like zone 6 or warmer.
