"Gene!, Gene!, The Dancing Machine" asked me about donating a plant for the Spring Internet Auction and he assured me that I would not have to mail my plant and that it would be "pick up only!". So, I figured I might as well dig out one of my famous (infamous?) Clone X plants. I wanted to dig out one of the 3 & 1/4 inch diameter culms, but those had a couple of basal nodes with branch complement buds, but then skipped about 30 feet before another bud showed up. The hauling of one that tall might scare some bidders off, so I selected a 2.5 inch diameter culm with branch complement buds on each node. I topped it at about 15 feet. The winner bidder can top it some more if they like. Rather than cut a lot of the rots and part of the rhizome and force it into a pot was something that might not be desirable. So I took 16 inch patio stones and placed one on the bottom and placed the roots and rhizome on top, then I place 16 inch patio stones on each side. So the winner bidder can just take the pot apart and have a 16 X 16 inches square by 14 inches deep set of roots and a rhizome. I have some 55 gal. plastic bags the winning bidder can use to keep the roots and rhizome moist as it is being hauled. I put the plant in partial shade (or is it partial sun--could never figure that one out) because I wanted it to leaf out, but I didn't want it to start producing new shoots before pickup.
Anybody got any questions?
