Last spring I bought four 1-gal. Pleioblasts'.

Pleioblastus argenteostriatus
Pleioblastus chino 'Kimmei'
Pleioblastus fortunei
Pleioblastus viridistriatus

I didn't mark the pots when I transplanted them, so now I don't know which is which. Well, not exactly, I know a couple of them, but I figured this would be more fun

Rick- I think you're right. I did not look at your order and came up with the same results. I had all 4 but killed 2 of them. It was a toss up for 2 & 3, but I think Kimmei has larger leaves. I killed Kimmei and Argenteo last summer during the drought.

Mantis- A couple of healthy 1 gals!

I second what everyone else came up with... or would that be third? have not had the argento or the kimmei, but the other two are pretty evident, and the chino forms have longer leaves, sooo, I would say it is pretty much put to bed!

I agree with 1 and 4 but 2 & 3 are too close to call for me. I have some young variegated Chino that do not have very large leaves, in fact they are smaller than my Argenteo. Maybe you'll have culm coloration on the Kimmei that will confirm those 2.

Thanks for the replies.

The viridistriatus just about died last year. It was down to one tiny culm with one leaf. That is why it is still in the pot. Those little weeds that are in the pot are EVERYWHERE in my landscaping. I bet I have 10,000 of them in my beds.

The three in ground boo are doing very well. Not sure how they'll manage this summer, but I put them in a spot that gets morning sun, and full afternoon shade, so hopefully they'll survive. With the amount of new growth they've put out this year they look like they are happy.

I'll keep an eye on #2 & #3 to see how they develop, but for now I'm going to label them with what the majority have suggested.
