Post by bambooweb »

It works :D
I will try and get it over here this weekend.
http://bambooweb.hollenback.com/searchtest.php

Note: I have the page defaulting to search for "Sasa" but I will put a search box in the header of the forum pages and whatever is put in the search box will be searched for on the page.

That was easier than it looked :D

It took over twice as long to figure out Google's documentation than it actually took to write the code.

I'm liking this Google search feature more and more. I can actually find things now on the Bambooweb.info!

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!!! The previous search feature was I think the only part of bambooweb.info that left me wanting more (well my plant list could use another 100 or so boo! ).

I finally made it to Florida, and I'm on my friend's machine, but it looks like it defaults to only 4 results per page? Is that something that can be changed by the user, or did you have that hard coded just for testing purposes?

Did I say Awesome yet?!!!

Click the More Results button, and you get many more results per page (looks like 10 per page). It is just the first page that only has 4 results.

I will have to see if google allows showing more than 4 results on the first page. Google has two ways that someone can add a search to a page and the other one defaults to one result but you can change it to 8. I will have to see if there is a setting to change the one I used.

Ho Bill,

Any reason the Google search feature is not working? I'm using the same words I used the other day to look up "stuff" on Bambooweb.info and now I get nothing for the search now. A few day ago I was getting loads of infor using the new Google search feature.

I don't know what was the problem. I just checked and it worked for me. I have not done anything to the code in a couple of days other than changing the database settings and Google does not use this database.
Google does have a limit on the number of searches. Have you done more than 10,000 searches today?

Bill: When I use the same terms (still held in memory by my browser) that I used to originally test out Google on Bambooweb.info, then no search information comes up. I tried new term/words and it works. I'll do some thinking and see how I can fix that. It must be a local thing.

ghmerrill: The answerer is "a lot". But I have my computer and porn sites to visit, which also takes up some of my time. :D

I have also had a problem where it would show search results for the site but nothing for the forums but if you type in the site information in a google page it works. I checked the Google search API group and it looks like other sites are also having problems with the search.

I also found two other search APIs that look like they will also work so I might check the Yahoo search if Google is going to stop working. The Yahoo Search looks like it takes more programming but it also has more options.
