Have: Phyllostachys aureosulcata "Yellow Groove"

Post by rfgpitt »

OK,
I've decided to dig up a good bit of Yellow Groove before it gets too big. Gonna contain it to make room for others. Would be able to send divisions the size of typical 2 gallon (probably more rhizomes than culms since they're in the ground).

Looking for other cold hardy Phyllostachys like nuda, dulcis, rubromarginata or other aureosulcata cultivars or???. Also looking for Fargesias other than robusta and possibly more ornamentals that would do well inside without a huge pot.

....send me your division (weather permitting for tropicals) and I will send an adequate amount in return. would like larger divisions if possible and would send multiple smaller divisions back at cha.

Thanks,
Rick

I've always been enamored with the beautiful coloration of the new P.aureosulcata shoots:

Definitely my intentions. I've always tried to have a picture of the bamboos I put up for adoption. A picture will do a lot more than all the talking and writing about "how that little bamboo in the pot will one day grow up to be soooo pretty". That's what makes the image gallery at Bambooweb.info such a valuable tool.

Big Shoots - WOW

Post by Mike McG »

Roy,

In your picture of shoots above, do you know what we are looking at? Is this at the edge of a mature grove and there are some big rhizomes following last years small rhizomes or is this a planting that is sizing up real fast? The result of your local water? :D

Mike,

This is a picture from the image gallery at Bambooweb.info with this caption information: "Note the beautiful color in the new shoots. Used with permission. Photo by Rob Montminy. Salem MA. Z 6".

I don't have any first hand information on this bamboo. The first time I saw an image of the shoots of this variety was an upload by Michael Alfano at Bamboopeople.com. For me personally, the new shoots of this bamboo are absolutely stunning.

Rick,

If the Steelers win this weekend, perhaps you could promote it as Steeler Golden Groove. It could be a golden opportunity. If Pittsburg wins, the local fans will buy anything with Steeler Gold in it for at least several months. Remember: Promotion is the key word. Bettis could be your celebrity endorsement and you could pay him a percentage of the sales.

What it sounds like is that yellowgroove has been growing throughout the north-east for quite sometime, almost with a noxious factor. Brad commented that there were more groves than he could dig, at least I think. Foxd has had his for awhile. It seems like yellowgroove is as common as christmas trees on Xmas.
Even though, the northeasters seem to have dig parties and celebrate bamboo day. In iowa, I'm not sure if there are any cool digs to be in existance.
I like Roy's idea. Selling the bamboo to some drunk Pittsburg fans should be easy. The saying,
you could sell used toilet paper to a crew of drunken sailers
.
My groves are too young to find any divisions ready to be scooped up. Also, the voles!
What are voles?
I didn't pay much attention, until the lemming-like population explosion this past year.
So this message is for anyone out there who has excess yellowgroove.
If there are no takers, I'll take it for shipping cost. I have much room to test certain species of plants. 8)

I am always up for bamboo, but not for my climate. Hate to send her to her scorching death in the Florida sun :( :!:

Vicki, Sounds like one would have to have air-conditioning in the Floridian climate, but I guess heating offsets that in iowan climate. 8)

Rick, Not sure how big of box of it I want. But no more than $30 shipping and handling, whatever size that comes to.

I'd like a box as well. I have 2 8 inch rhizomes in planters right now... but no problem adding to the growing family.

Thanks

more than likely the culms aren't going to be the important part. I may be able to bend/stuff them into a flat rate box. I'll let you guys know in a week or four whenever I dig. CJ, if you still have an extra b. buddah keep me in mind.

Hey CJ, did you ever get any of those rhizomes you got from Chris to grow? :?:
