Meteorite or just strange rock

This is really going to be off-topic. To stay a bit on topic, I added bamboo seedling next to it. Check the picture.

Here's the story. I found this rock on my backyard ten or even more years ago. It seemed extremely different and I kept it, despite someone told me it's just molten glass. Time went by and I almost forgot about it, but with latest meteorite that fell down in Russia, pictures emerged and I remembered that my old find resembles those particles that fell down there.

Most likely it's nothing, but I'm very curious and would love to know the origin of that stone. If there are geologists among you, I'd be glad to know more. :)

Tarzanus - My neighbor is a retired geologist. I'll email the pix to him.

Tarzanus - My neighbour says:

"Thanks. Could be glass slag if there were works nearby. Some of the fluting looks meteoritic (possibly stony type).

Is it magnetic?

Does it feel heavy? "

I will relay your responses to him.

It does feel heavier than glass of the same size and yes it's magnetic (strong magnet can hold it attached and supports it's weight) on two sides of it - the non glassy surface where the tiny holes are. There are also rust particles on that same surface. It could be glass slag, but I'm not sure where it would come from.

I was thinking meteoric or volcanic, like obsidian. Had not thought about slag. There is no reason it could not be a meteor, especially if magnetic, they have fallen all over the planet forever. Could be worth something. Do you have a geiger counter?(:

IF its magnetic, im sure it wont be glass slag. You could bring it to your local University and see if its radioactive. Meteorites usually have high levels of iridium. There is a high level of it on the KT boundary (the geologic "line" in which the dinosaurs disappear, and also coincides with the mexican impact ). The Uni may also offer to buy it if it is indeed a meteorite.

Keep us posted please.

I hope you can confirm that its a meteorite. That would be really fun and possibly worth some money for you.

Thank you!
I'll most likely ask people at University about it. In Slovenia there are only 3 meteorites that were ever found, perhaps I have the fourth. :)

I'll let you know when I know more.

It kinda reminds me of a tektite, which is meteoritic glass from large impacts.
