Need some help with an ID on this palm. It is old, probably 25-30 maybe more years old. My good friend gave it to me about eight years ago when I lived in Colorado, since then I have moved down to South Alabama. I have managed to get a couple of rootings that are doing well off of it. I would like to fiqure out what it is and what kind of temps it can take out in the elements, as I would like to plant one one in the ground outside. Any help would be greatly apprecaited. Thanks. cheers! Oh yea..don't mind the dust

Re: House palm identification
It looks to me like a form of dracaena marginata -- not a palm.

it looks like one that I have that was top killed last winter when temps dropped to 21f but coming back slow and steady
I was told by a friend that was growing and selling palms that the common name is " Pony Tail Palm "
not sure if that is correct or not but it works for me

Re: House palm identification
Don't ponytail palms get a bulbous base to the trunk? From reading it seems like that's one of the key characteristics, and a 20 year-old specimen would surely show that, wouldn't it?

Re: House palm identification
The dracaena pictured here is likely the one I'd see in Hawai'i and has clusters of very fragrant flowers if they are happy.
