I was watching the news last night, and one channel showed a low of 20°F on Saturday morning. I flipped to another channel, and they showed a low of 18°. I went back to the channel showing 20.

I dont know about you, but I thought ninja (nijas? ninji? ninjou?) were super human and never had to pee? you never see it happen in the movies.....
be a heck of a thing, to get halfway up that 100' boo culm and realize your prostrate is bigger than it used to be......
You would have thought that by watching movies, but what you don't understand is they usually sweat out their waste through the pores. It is only in subzero temps that they can not sweat enough and have to excrete it using the other method. How many subzero ninja movies have you've seen?

You should have taped a summer broadcast and watched it now, and you could feel all warm and cozy inside.

A cold front is moving out of eastern Arkansas and in its wake...very cold air and strong winds. As skies clear, temperatures will fall throughout the day today from our current readings. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY is in effect from tonight through Friday. Wind Chill readings will drop below zero in many areas during this time frame as winds gust to over 30mph. This will be the coldest weather we've experienced since 1996. :alien:

The aliens must be flying over the north pole. Maybe thats why all the ice up there is melting.

All the cold weather we've been having is due to a strong negative phase of the Arctic Oscillation. So all the warm weather goes up to the Arctic and Greenland.

And I'm still waiting to see what the temperature does on the 15th before I write anything to jinx the weather.

This is our 4th day at under 20 deg. Most of my bamboo shows signs of stress, but my Phyllostachys aureosulcata 'Aureocaulis' seems quite happy.
The Aureocaulis is very GREEN and has no signs of leaf roll or damage. I have two, one is planted and 1 is potted they both seem HAPPY with the cold.

I think I damaged one of the culms on my P. Nigra when I turned it around to lean closer to the house, as it has rolled all the leaves and really looks awful.
The other culm is doing well. I planted 1 of the 3 pots of P. Nigra I got from Brad it is showing slight stress and the other is inside for the last 4 weeks...
I have to agree with Brad, the P. Nigra does not do much. It has no shoots, a few re-leaf that's about it.
I guess I will see this spring if I have any new shoots???

We stopped by the grocery store on the way home and noticed the run on bread, eggs and milk. What is it about snow storms that causes people to run out and get the ingredients for french toast? :?

Is there a corresponding run on syrup too?

Hey Foxd
You need to make friends with those people buying that kind of items..
Maybe thay BAKE when it is cold and will invite you over???
I snowplowed the parkway for the lady across the street today and she made me an apple pie.
I did the next door neighbors parkway too as his wife is about to have a baby.
He just came out and said Thanks

Honestly, if I was in your shoes... I'd rather have him give me a "thanks" than give me a baby.

Hey Mantis,
I just do it because I like to help people out when I see they have need.
The lady across the street is a widdow.
I expect nothing but when they try to pay me, I suggest Baked goods...
I would plow even with out the thanks...
