Did it have a redish orange under side. Kinda looks like a mud snake. Not a dangerous one for sure...change that not a vemonous one all snakes will bite and it hurts like hell if the get a good hold of you.

Mud snake sounds like a good guess. It did kind of remind me of an earthworm.

Im cool with snakes, they seem to keep to themselves and do more good than harm. Although I found one sitting on the toilet tank one time and it was a pain trying to catch it. Apparently they dont like to be cornered.

Re: name that snake
roscoe, where are you located? here on the west coast we have a snake that looks very similar, called a rubber boa (no joke)
not too common donwn in the lowlands where I live, but you see them up in the mountains. neat snakes, completely harmless. the head/tail end looking almost alike is one characteristic, the other is tarsal spurs, which are small claw looking appendages just off the sides of the vent- which would mean you have to pick it and look under its skirt to see....

ummm duh......
okay, and no alchoholic beverages were involved last night, believe it or not! I now see where you are... that does not show up when you are posting, so I have some marginal lame excuse for asking it!

Re: name that snake
Actually that picture was taken near lake tahoe last july. I agree it probably is a rubber boa. I lived in california for the first 20 years of my life and that was only the second one Ive seen.
Iowaboo, you only missed by about 10 miles! Not bad. Not to mention your probably the only person in Iowa that even knows Duck hill exists.

Re: name that snake
just looked at a map to see what was approx. 100 miles south and duck hill sounded like a funny one to say
