my Vivax Aureocaulis is starting to drop leaves and I won't water her so rain is the only shot she has this fall.
you can always send her here to Oregon... I water faithfully twice a week!

Mantis,

If Gustav passes just east of you, you probably won't get the rains you desire. If it passes just to the west of you, hold on! You'll get the rain, but you will also get the brunt of Gustav's winds and possibly tornadoes.

Don't forget we've got more to come. Hanna is doing her best to try and get into the Gulf of Mexico.

Current prediction for Gustav is 125mph winds making it Cat 3. In the last 2 days it's moved from hitting east of N.O. to almost the TX boarder, and considering it is still 5 days from landfall it is still anyone's guess as to where it will hit.

You are definitely right. The 11 a.m. track is slightly different. It doesn't show the "left hook" at landfall that the earlier prediction had.

It's getting pretty windy here in west central Florida!!!!!!!!!!
I strapped some electrical conduit 10' poles to some of the newest shoots ie, D. giganteus, B. Lako, D. brandesii, B. membranacea, D. validus, & G. sumatra. There's a few that are to tall to tie off 'cause I can't get high enough to strap em' down. :x

Good luck to all on the northern Gulf coast. I'm sure you know what's what's coming your way. Stay safe and get out if you have to!!

Pretty windy at my house also. I keep hearing and seeing big dead 3 plus inch limbs falling out of my oak trees from 50 to 60 feet up. Definitely a danger to be out walking in my backyard right now. We are probably getting gusts in the 25 to 30 mph range.

Roy,

I have the same problem w/ my oak tree. I also have a 50' Jacaranda and 2 30' pecan trees that "throw" limbs at me from time to time. Where I come from we called them "Widow Makers". :sad4: :confused2:

It's starting to get a little windy here in Mobile and we had a nice squaw come through around 6pm. I expect the worst for us will be about daylight. I put a few trees on the ground so I could direct their direction, and moved horses around to get them off the pond. With Katrina, we had water coming over the dam and 3-4ft in the front yard. I don't expect quite the storm surge with Gustav, maybe 8ft; it's projected to hit a few miles further west, but we're preparing for the worst. I just hope we don't lose power for too long, it's much too hot and muggy for the ac to be out for any time. Good luck to you folks in LA and West MS, traffic was heavy all day in I-10 east.
