It's a seedling, so there's a good chance you'll end up with just plain old D. Asper and not the black cultivar. Although, it have bio class a long time ago.

oic...thanks Rick. So if I could come across an actual division from the black asper or fresh rhizome from one ... that would be the better option right?

Yep, better off with a division.
You would have to wait a few years to see what the seedling wants to be. Also, some of these tropical clumpers are being "forced" into setting seed and not doing it on their natural cycles. Not sure how this will effect the offspring.

Before I got involved with my local boo nursery, I bought seedlings from him on e-bay.

They are doing well, sprouting, growing. The base seems to turn darker as it ages. I have a Looonnngg way to go to maturity. :D

Hello! Just took some new photos today of the seedling in the pot on the right (the one on the left died first winter in ground). Just curious as to what the thought might be... It has experienced total topkill each winter..the growth you see is from this year...
