Love the yellow culms :D Now that we know mine isn't "Alphonse karr" I'm wondering if it could be straight multiplex. Maybe another chusquea of some sort. I would imagine if it was chusquea culeou then it would have been bigger by now and hardier for sure in my climate. Compared to my C Gigantea it seems less hardy. It should be the opposite of it was culeou. The leaves are a lot wider and larger then my Gigantea also.

You might have a green hedge multiplex(the Parent plant of the species). Your description of the damage and come back might just fit for a multiplex at those temps. I have other species of Bambusa that survive temps lower than their rating every year. Never reach their potential though.
