Small Bamboo for Plant Prop-Up

Post by SvenLittkowski »

Hi, please assist me.

I am sure, you have seen those small bamboo sticks for plant prop-up (plant support), when you go into some plant shop.

What variety of bamboo do they possibly use?

I am sure any specie of bamboo can be used. If you want small sticks then just grow the small bamboos.

I think they mainly use Pseudosasa amabilis but several other species would make good substitutes. Pseudosasa viridula would make a good substitute or Arundinaria gigantea for that matter.

The legal issues that will arise when the undead walk the earth are legion, and addressing them all is well beyond what could reasonably be accomplished in this brief Essay. Indeed, a complete treatment of the tax issues alone would require several volumes.

In Jamaica you'll need to stick with species that do not require a cool winter period, most of the bamboo you'll see there is Bambusa vulgaris which would be a fine candidate for plant stakes and you should be able to propagate it easily via branch cuttings or culm cuttings.

Thanks. Will try. Hope the stems won't exceed a diameter of 1 cm.

I'm reminded of Bambusa multiplex 'Tiny Fern' but perhaps it's a bit small.

With only a typical larger bamboo you can cull any stems that are too thick as they emerge or harvest almost all of the stems every year to limit subsequent size.
