Bambusa textilis

Post by Bambusero »

We have two clumps here, one which seems to be normal Bambusa textilis and one which may be textilis Gracilis. Does anyone know how to tell them apart?
Thanks,
Mark

It's a fine line of distinction with Textilis. If they are full sized clumps the regular textilis gets +5cm in diameter and the Gracilis only +3cm. But there are other Textilis such as glabra that are only that size.

Run your hand up and down a few canes of each plant. If one of the plants is Gracilis, you will feel rounded bumps all along the surface of the canes. They are not visible to the eye, but definitely perceptible to the touch.....more on some canes than on others, so check several canes. I haven't felt them on any other textilis varieties.
