Jeff,
It would be great if you could get up there to give us the benefit of another observer. I really wanted to ride the all Viridiglaucescens boat. I wonder what David thinks at this point? What ever its name, it is clearly a nice bamboo, hardy and vigorous.

I think the patch I mentioned at the street would be easy to take a division from, maybe after they leaf out and harden up a bit. It is in a place she doesn't want it so it may not last long. If you think you might want some it would probably be good to contact her and ask her not to destroy it for a while. She seemed happy to sell plants at very reasonable prices.

I think it's probable that this is a mixed grove. If it is I think henon and vivax would be reasonable suspects. We will need to match shoots and culms at some point to be sure

I definitely want a division. What I am growing as viridiglaucescens looks nothing like the pics on the French site. There are two P.I. nos so I guess it could be one without oral setae. I would like to visit the grove sometime to get a better idea of the plant/ plants it contains. Anybody up for a road trip?

David,
It would be super if you could visit the grove. I'm about 1.5 hours away and usually pretty flexible on time. There would probably be some things in Asheville y'all would like to see and do. I don't know your wife's interest but Asheville has lots of galleries and antique shopping. Might be the only way we will ever have a satisfactory determination. I'm guessing the owner would be more open to a visit if we are planning to buy something. She really doesn't care much what its name is. Let me know about when you are thinking and I will contact her. Do you still have my phone number? If we could get Jeff interested again he might come and I think Matthew in Clemson isn't too far away. My cousin might also be interested. Are you thinking while the shoots are still there, (like now) or later during the festival, or at a proper time to get good divisions. I'm afraid she will mow or round-up everything small enough to handle easy this summer. The young man in the photos wrestled lots of huge shoots down while I was taking photos Friday.

We know much more now than last Friday when I was there. I just wasn't thinking multiple species at the time, but I have to say being there I felt some kind of uniformity that makes me think it's one type. Admittedly, I was dismissing the gray and yellow colored culms as old. And remember I'm still new at this and value the experience here.

I would be up for a trip to Asheville sometime, especially for the possibility of getting some henon and viridiglauc--maybe we can work something out! I suppose if those boos are in early stages of shooting the time is now unless we were to wait until late summer or fall, right?

I'm thinking some time in August so we could dig a few divisions. Now would be the best time for an ID trip but I have obligations here and can't get away at the moment. It's too late to dig now anyway.

Matt if you don't mind call the owner and ask her to spare several divisions, and I'll pay her when we come to dig. I think I still have your number on my phone.

Sounds like a fun trip!

I'm already looking forward to it!

What size plants should I ask her to save? Car, truck or trailer?

I'll probably come by myself and do a "turn an' burn" the next morning. I'll drive the truck, and can manage 12-16' without difficulty, and maybe 5-7 divisions.

I could bring some plants up your way if you guys have any requests.

Sounds like great fun!
