Here is my second plant. It comes up about 3 weeks after my first plant (these pics are now). The culm sheathes are darker than my first plant.
If you need more photos, please let me know.
Thanks again,
Diane

Really cool. Maybe mine will be like that next year. I'm not that good at recognizing a lot of Bamboo yet but there are guys here that will know as soon as they see it. You'll know soon.

I think you have phyllostachys aurea and here's why.
-Huge colorful sheath blades
-brownish pink sheaths with visible drying
-low branching
-tightly packed culms
-dense foliage
-long rhizomes-based on how far your shoots are getting
I might be wrong as a few others like glauca have a similar shoot appearance, but aurea is much more common in the southeast. If you see distortion in the lower nodes of your new shoots, then it has to be aurea as it appears when you bamboo matures.

I was thinking the same thing...DARN. I am by far not an expert on Bamboo but I absolutely love it. For 4 years I thought I was growing two different varieties...and not phyllostachys aurea. I wanted a much larger type. I was hoping that the leaves would stop growing at the bottom. lol. please someone tell me differently. lol.
