I will post a few of the better photos I have captured of my mystery bamboo. I have tried to look around and read descriptions about said quandary, but to no avail!



The photographs are of a sheath up close. A shot or so of the few pieces I collected to show the thickness and a better view of the culm. A few leaves. Some photos may have a good shot of them growing together and that will also assist in the ID. I saw a few root balls that had been dug up and they appear to be quote bunched, but I noticed some of the bundles springing up a few feet from the main mass..so this could indicate runners, HOWEVER, the area between the 'runaway' shoot, is also the area in which I discovered the root ball. Which leads me to believe that it is in fact a clumper, thus narrowing the scope of ID.
Help please! And thanks once more!

Based on the branch structure and the sheathing around it, I'd go with Arundinaria gigantea as my 1st guess.

My guess on this one would be one of the Bambusa, perhaps a form of multiplex and I think your other post is also a Bambusa but a different one, I've been waiting for the other Texans here to weigh in for you as they should know what you have.

I am also now in Houston working and the pics look all to familiar. And I agree with needmore. There is lots of bamboo here and another local from here post often in here (probably down at the new place durning spring break) is quite familiar with many of the bamboo grown here and he might have a different suggestion. Houston is just a bit warmer then where my bamboo are growing in NW Florida, so i see many types growing here that I do not see in my area except around the coast.

Michael if yo are talking about Houston it self remember it is on heck of a heat sink. Out side of town the boo's are less hardy.
