Re: Various variegated bamboo plants
Nothing close listed in ABS species list. Suggest you chk these guys out prior to purchase. Lots of folks selling strange and exotic plants that don't exist. I hv issues with The American Bamboo Society but their species list is the species bible. The P. Simonii variegatus is a must have plant. The most elegant leaves you can find. Also check reputable growers for species info as a check and balance. In general I find the Pacific North West growers most helpful and more knowledgeable than CA. Glad I could

I have it hear already ( couldn't help myself) has a very nice long skinny leaf . many variegated some not though maybe do to the time of year. Re: Various variegated bamboo plants
Something seems amiss. Chris Stapleton (England) is the name guru worldwide. He assigns the names and is a member of ABS. He would have assigned the genus name heterophyllus. Since he is in Europe he would have been close to a new species sold there and named it. Looks (ref your photos) like a straight P.s.v. How did you hear abt the hetero. and who sold it? Rgds

Re: Various variegated bamboo plants
West County Bamboo in Santa Rosa. I wanted a variegated form and when I saw it in there site I had to look it up. Color looks richer online. Maybe time of year pics where taken on the Europe sites? I agree looks like variegatus to me which I'm fine with it wasn't spendy. I like the looks and may buy more at bamboo garden and compare in a few years. Thanks Jasonfredgpops wrote:Something seems amiss. Chris Stapleton (England) is the name guru worldwide. He assigns the names and is a member of ABS. Re: Various variegated bamboo plants
these are both photos from Bambus-lexikon site
im not sure what the site says but they have descriptions of both
Pleioblastus s. heterophyllus and Pleioblastus s. variegatus
now on this site and the few others i have seen in Europe Heterophyllus has more color.
im not sure if its a actual different variety or if the photos where taken earlier in the season. Regardless of what mine was labeled ( from West County Bamboo) id say
like Fred said mine looks like Variegatus . i think i may buy a few more still from a few sources and see if theres any difference
