Local guy here in town sent me these pics with some comments I had to giggle over. But would like the Vets here to confirm or deny that these may be Bambusa. He claims they do great in the chill here... waiting for his reply to my request to pay a visit. I'll try to get more pics too. Chums? lol and his chums grow taller as it ages...16-18 first, then stretching taller the next season and so on for 4-5 years? hehehe

From the owner:
Hi Charles
Survives North Carolina winters well.
Will survive ok down to -20F.
in the 1st year the stalks can grow as high as 16-18'.
Each year, the plant will add additional height and multiple chums.
This is the Bambousa strain.
The life span of a typical bamboo stalk is 4-5 years. In that time, it
would have produced anywhere from 25-50 chums, or more.

Hi... thanks... have any ideas on what it may be? The small one he claims is a division of the large.
It looks alot like the P. Aurea I have in a planter.

No idea. Only thing I can think of that would make him think it was a "bambousa" is that it was sold to him as some type of Ph. bambusoides. Even that is a stretch.

Good luck.

you are right there... the culm sheaths are wrong for a bambusoides. Possibly Ruboro, Nuda, or ???. go and check it out, and get more close up photos.

Not really. I'm just bored at work, so my brain has been wandering.
