Anyone care to guess what this bamboo is? It was sold to me as Dendrocalamus Giganteus. It was being sold in Florida for several years as Dendrocalamus Giganteus. Some folks call this the "crappy clone".

I don't know what it is, but the leaves are about 8 inches long and about 2 inches wide. It arches over "a lot". Below is a recent (today) picture of a new shoot and a close up of the node and branch detail. I like the bamboo. It grows great in deep south Texas and it does grow very large. Shoots at a local nursery are around 3 - 4 inches in diameter.

Any guesses? BTW, I did see this at John Rogers place and he identified it as a Dendrocalamus Giganteus that he purchased. It did not grow that large at his place. In the Rio Grande Valley, it grows fairly large and is one of the better looking boos that is not straight.

BTW... it feels pretty soft and velvety. I have five in the ground. They do look very nice.

One other characteristic... in the area of the internode where a sulcus would be in a runner, the fuzz is thicker almost like a stripe. It is also flatter in this area.

The pictures above are from culm node cuttings from about 2.5 years ago.

Don't know about the bamboo, but your picture taking skills make it look like a nice looking bamboo.
