A lot of my bamboos (new) leaves are coming out discolored.

Is this due to a lack of nutrients, or perhaps an abundance of it. I haven't fertilized since the shoots were fairly juvenile. I was using a water soluble fertilizer 30-10-10.

Looks more like under fertilized than over. Probably N, possibly K. Maybe try a slower release fertilizer for more sustained nutrition.

Thank you for the suggestion, I went and bought some slow release grass fertilizer so hopefully that helps.

Just a reminder - bamboo leaves normally turn various shades of yellow and detach as part of the growing cycle.

That could also be bright sun related damage. As the leaf was still unfolding, the exposed part could have gotten slightly burnt and discolored.

But brand new leaves shouldn't be turning yellow should they?

I think you might be right about the sun thing bleaching them a little.

Regardless of the problem I threw some slow release fertilizer on them so I'll see where that gets me.

I may have a similar issue on my new plants of dendrocalamaus membranaceus.
Some leaves are progressively turning yellow / white...
Any idea why ?
