Winter started in late January with bare ground and persistent cold. The lowest was -14c (+7F ). The frost went down at least a meter and has been extremely slow to thaw since late March. And yet Fargesia apicirubens DabaShan #2 looks better than it ever has. It faces north west, new culms are not to be seen yet though - that's late for it - it has been upsizing nicely.
Hardiness limit is about -17c (0F.) A hair hardier than F. robusta 'Campbell', the hardiest of the robustas.
Jasminum nudiflorum just out.
First new shoots on DabaShan #2 spied 26 April, up an inch des[ite the chilly weather.
