Hello,
So I built 6 of these planter boxes. They are roughly 7'x3'x2'. I put corrugated steel in the bottoms of the boxes and then have perforated drain pipe going out both sides. The boxes are actually built off a retaining wall that goes to the neighbors so I lined the backs with Bamboo barrier. To get the steel panels to fit in side the boxes I had to cut notches out around posts....etc this left cracks and just small places that go down to the dirt below. (Hard Clay)
^^ Should this be enough to contain Temple Bamboo? Or should I make sure every little crack and space is covered in the floor?
I got tired of trying to edit photos to make them attachable..... You can take a look at the boxes here:

Re: Planter Boxes for my Bamboo
Greetings, my guess is that it will find a way into the cracks, mine got underneath one layer of corrugated and ran down the underside of it but I did not discover this until I was in the process of removing the beds I had built - it was quite amazing how much rhizome had grown to where I did not think it could. That bed was a railroad tie bed with the metal lining the bottom. Rhizome had gotten in between the layers of railroad ties and ran their length even though they were nailed together with big spike nails. But no signs of anything having made it outside the bed but it seemed inevitable. Temple in particular can dive deep so if it can find the clay it will. But I also think that any escape will not be an issue, occasionally check the perimeter of the boxes.
If it is not too late you might layer those cheap concrete pavers under the boxes so they are sort of on a concrete pad - not sure if your site conditions would permit.

That's exactly what I've done. Example here:needmore wrote:...If it is not too late you might layer those cheap concrete pavers under the boxes so they are sort of on a concrete pad - not sure if your site conditions would permit.
