Some cleanup, rhizome pruning

Post by Alan_L »

Thought I'd share a couple of blog posts I wrote this week on rhizome pruning and some grove cleanup.

Great blogs Alan, your bamboo looks really nice and ready to push some really large shoots this spring, that Atro will jump over 2" I bet.

How is the Beijing fairing the flowering? I cut all my down before I moved assuming it was gonna get funky.

Thanks Brad. The Beijing only had flowers on a couple of the oldest culms, so we'll see what happens. It sized up so much last year it showed no signs of weakness. This might be the key year though.

Although my Pl. fortunei which had loads of flowers that first year shows just a couple every year now and has spread like crazy. My Pl. shibuyanus 'Tsuboi' had a couple of flowers 4-5 years ago but hasn't shown another since and also is spreading like mad. So maybe there's something in my soil. ;)

Alan, I've meant to say how often I've been jealously distracted from my own work by your blog posts. Thank you for taking the time.

Thank you! It's nice to hear when people enjoy it -- sometimes I feel like I'm only posting for myself. :)
