Hi guys.

In the last couple weeks as I've reported on my shoots, I mentioned that one of my five bissetii hadn't shot.

It is now. The shoots are coming up very close to the parent plant and they are yellow! Does anyone know what that means?

Here's a bit more detail: It turns out that some of the shoots I thought were bissetii were actually YG, so two of my five bissetii hadn't shot. Both of them started shooting a couple days ago. Some possible reasons that they are shooting later than their comrades might include: they're in more shade (even though they are only a few feet from the others); they were buried more deeply (because I leveled the bed so it would retain water better), and maybe voles (since the shoots seems to be coming up very near their parents).

Ideas?

If they're just barely poking out of the soil and are yellow, that's normal -- they'll color up now that they're exposed to light.

I still think it's weird that bissetii shoots later than YG -- mine is 2 weeks or so ahead of YG every year.

It's interesting. My younger plants are shooting before my older. That's true for the inversa and for the YG.

The younger YG shot a little later than the bissetii but the more mature shot later. And now these two bissetii that weren't shooting at all are just now starting to get engaged.

It's been a strange year.

Alan, bissetii always follows Yellow Groove forms here by a week or two sometimes, but always noticeably later. I have bissetii just now shooting and other bamboos are approaching 3 meters tall. Might be my clone of it just shoots later but it also seems to be bigger than others.

Juvenile bamboo always seem to shoot early, as the grove matures they push back later each year.
