 Post subject: Damn rain

We had a tsunami last night,and thought great, some rain. Until I woke and looked at my new shoots and saw this, damn!

I don't know what your weather conditions have been since those came up but that looks to me like freeze damage - it weakens an area usually just above a node but the shoots remain vertical for a few days and then fall over. Maybe not, it just looks like that is not fresh damage?

I agree, this is most likely older frost damage. Rain just softened those shoots, which became heavier and started falling apart under their own weight. If they would drown because of rain, damage would be seen a bit later, not the next day. At least I believe so...

I have some similar but not all grouped like that, and mine have clumsy deer-hoof prints next to them.

I thought they may have got soaked and with the rain coming down in buckets it was to much for the new shoots to hold. Also we haven't had any weather close to freezing for a least a week, so if freeze damage can take a while to affect it, than it is definitely plausible. Had a few more go down today. Won't complain too much, have over 125 new shoots, but sad to see some go.
