Species for low hedge/border

Post by bamboothew »

I have seen a picture somewhere of a border or short hedge of henon that was kept trimmed to a height of 12 inches and was beautifully bushy and leafed all the way to the ground. I am wondering: will lots of species act this way if trimmed so short? Specifically I am thinking about using Phyllostachys humilis this way, since I have 2 divisions of it sitting around in pots anyway. This spot is in full blazing sun most of the day so I don't think groundcover species would work very well there, plus I liked the look of the henon border I saw. Are there any other species that anyone has experience with in this fashion? Perhaps pretty much any phyllostachys would work this way? Thanks for any and all input!
God Bless,

Matthew
