|Post subject:||Bamboo Workshop in South Florida (ECHO)|
There is a tropical agriculture and development class coming up in February in Fort Myers, Florida, at ECHO that some of you might be interested in. I used to work for this organization and, bias included, this looks like a pretty sweet week of learning. Here is a promotional from their website:
"With over 1,000 different species of bamboo in the world, the plant remains essential source of food, implements, and construction materials. In this hands-on workshop participants will be exposed to dozens of useful tropical varieties of bamboo. They will gain practical insights related to the propagation of various types of bamboo, as well as basic production approaches. Additionally, participants will explore harvesting and preservation methods and construction techniques."
Registration Fee: $540.00
Registration fees include:
Meals (Monday evening through Saturday morning).
Housing from February 6th through the 11th
I have attended several of their classes, and they are really well done. This would be a fun way to work up-close with tropical species if you haven't had the chance. Plus, an excellent opportunity to use their library and interview staff who work there. ECHO is a non-profit who assists smallholders in developing countries and helps provide agricultural information to people living overseas who are trying to grow food in difficult conditions.
