Porter, Texas Bamboo Grove Grooming Event/March 6, 2010
*Special Texas Bamboo Society Event * Saturday, March 6, 2010 - Bamboo Grove Grooming at Porter, Texas

The Texas Bamboo Society invites and welcomes all to come to our Grove Clearing at Porter, Texas, on Saturday, the 6th of March, 2010, starting at about 9 AM. Porter, Texas is just north of Houston off of Highway 59.

Bring the family, the kids, friends or whomever might like to see the inside of a bamboo forest. Dogs must be on leashes, as the owners have their own small dogs around...

We will be there most of the day, so there is NO way you can be late.
This is one of the last, large, untamed groves of Bamboo in Texa s (that we are aware of) and has about 20 acres of Bamboo, containing about 30 species of bamboo, both running and clumping. We will be clearing a small section of the area, and everyone is welcome to take home any and all poles they want, plus dig any starts of bamboo, for transplant, that you like.

If you are planning on digging bamboo, you must bring soil to replace the soil you will be hauling away, as we wish to leave the property in a respectful manner.

You will need gloves & clothing to be "in the jungle" and the following tools: hand clippers, loppers, hand saws, reciprocating saws, chains saws, and big limb loppers.

A battery powered "Sawzall", works GREAT for the smaller stuff.:: but don't forget to bring extra batteries and your charger.. there are places to plug them in..... Chain saws work best on the larger culms.

There is ample parking on site: There is a patio for cover in case of light rain, etc. Chairs and tables f or R & R.. Coffee, some drinks, water and snacks are being furnished by the owners of the property. Bring your lunch and extra, of your favorite drinks, if you drink a lot !!

SHORT RULES: NO camping on site:: NO poles to be loaded nor any plants to be dug until AFTER the work session is over, well after lunch. Follow the rules of the person in charge. Clear out the areas FIRST that have been cleared before. As expected there is normally some storm damage, that occurs during the year. All excess debris is usually burned on site...Don't forget to bring extra dirt if you are planning on digging bamboo plants.

Fee: $15 for Non Texas Bamboo Society Members -you can pay in advance (info below) or pay when you arrive
