I thought you might be interested.
www.BAMBOOBARRY.COM is proud to announce the rare opportunity to participate in
a hands-on 3-day workshop with the stellar bamboo construction expert Jorg
Stamm. Jorg is the leader of innovative contemporary bamboo construction and
design in the world today. He earned international attention as a result of
his spectacular bridge and building projects in Colombia and Bali,
Indonesia. In his new work he has shown how it is possible to successfully
marry traditional Asian design with modern engineering principles. By using
the natural curve of the bamboo poles he creates new designs that were
previously not possible. Through this exploration Jorg Stamm has taken
bamboo to an entirely new level, as evident in these photos.

Jorg's background also includes his work for the United Nation UNDP as a
superb teacher of hundreds of builders and architects in sites around the
world. Jorg has proven time and time again that he is not only a master
builder but also has a visionary mission to extend the potential of
renewable resources as only BAMBOO can do.

This symposium will be held in the heart of MIAMI'S DESIGN DISTRICT in a
very special setting. "AREA 57" a film and video production complex,
complete with its own beach, live bamboo & exotic garden, offices, dance
hall, and covered outdoor work area. The workshop will include gourmet
catered lunch and refreshments. During break time there will be
informational question & answer sessions. Each day will begin with
discussions per program outline and will end with slideshows, videos and
guest speakers to further enhance the learning experience.

Special international guests will include Dr. Michael Tistl, who is an
expert in bamboo silvi-culture and is presently the director of AGRO DE
BAMBU DE COLUMBIA and previously ran the GTZ program in Colombia for over 14
years and was the founder of the graduate program at the University of
Pereira de Colombia.

This workshop presents a unique opportunity to learn a new way of thinking
about this ancient and revered material. You will work on several bamboo
projects during the 3-day session. The main focus will be to build a
dramatic cantilevered roof awning that will be permanently installed in the
front entrance to the complex. You will also learn to work with various
bamboo materials which are used to transform interior walls and ceilings
and, as well, will create an exotic tropical shelter.

The goal of this workshop will be to provide fundamental real-world
understanding of bamboo materials as well as to examine the history of
construction from around the world. You will use the tools and techniques
for modern bamboo building, and learn how these materials and techniques can
be used in real world applications in North America today.

The course is limited to 25 participants; architects, students, builders,
carpenters, designers, and bamboo enthusiasts are welcome to enroll. Each
participant will discover their own skill level and we are open to guiding
anyone who shares our commitment to the potential of bamboo.
