March 17, 2007 - 3rd Saturday
The Texas Bamboo Society meets at 10 am - 1:00 pm in the Taniguchi Japanese Garden, Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin, Texas - for a "Bamboo Garden Study and Workday". Bring a saw, hand clippers and loppers and learn about taking care of the different species of bamboo as you become part of the Taniguchi Revitalization Project.? We will be working in the area just behind the Indocalamus tessellatus, clearing out some dead aurea culms and removing vines and defining an edge of the aurea grove.?? Here is a picture of the area we will be working: http://www.bamboocraft.net/bamboo/showp ... 47&cat=547

Also on Saturday, March 17, 2007:
Town Lake Bamboo Grove, Austin, Texas: 10 am - 2 pm
Two Austin bambuseros, Jayne Willingham and Jim Phillips, have adopted and groom the Town Lake grove several times each year and people congregate to help groom the grove, located on the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail, on the east bank of Barton Creek. In the process, participants will learn about containing and maintaining "running" (invasive) bamboos and how they differ from the non-invasive "clumping" bamboos. Grove managers will provide knowledge about bamboo horticulture and care, as well as water, sunscreen, snacks, and tools. Park along Toomey Road (off of Lamar, near Schlotsky's and behind the Zachary Scott Theater) adjacent to the baseball fields and Casa del luz, and head west to the trail entrance. Call 350-8505 for more information.
